Tour of KC results from this weekend

Weekend race report from the Tour of KC. The Friday night crit course had two nice ascents on it. One ascent was leading up to the finish. For this race most of field just stayed together and it was an all out sprint up the hill to the line. I came out the corner and up the hill in third but then found myself quickly getting passed by most of field well before the finish. Not exactly sure where Dave Smith finished but I know he passed me and I finished 28th in that race.

Saturday a circuit race was on the agenda. We were set for 7 laps around the course. It was raining and a pretty cool day. I could have actually used a jacket for this race. This course too had a switch back climb up to the finish. It was definitely worthy of the small chain ring. Race had several crashes early on but then after that the field got split up and we were able to settle into a good pace. Heading up the switch back on the last lap I really just didn’t have enough to really be in contention for sprint up to the line, but I rode in for an 8th place at this venue.

Today the coursehad 2 slight ascents and was my favorite of all the courses. The course had I think about 7 turns on it. It was definitely important to be up front as to not get strung off the back. There was a 2 man break early on that got away but one of those guys eventually got dropped somewhere along the line. The group pretty much conceded the victory and we were set for a field sprint at the finish. Just like the first 2 races this one had an ascent right before the finish. Heading up this on the last lap I was able to pass a number of people and had a good sprint up to the line for a 4th place finish today.

All in all KC provided 3 challenging courses and a fun weekend of racing.
